Communities in Schools of Miami is an affiliate of the nation’s largest and most effective dropout prevention organization, surrounding students with a community of support to empower them to stay in school and achieve in life. They mobilize communities to address both academic and non-academic barriers to learning to help our students. Their unique, proven model positions site coordinators inside schools to mobilize community resources and deliver them directly to kids inside their schools. Services includes mentoring, tutoring, counseling, leadership development, and much more!

 

Waterford 5K Raises $30,000 for the Miami Children’s Health Foundation

Taylor & Mathis of Florida hosted Miami’s biggest networking 5K event November 7th benefiting Miami Children’s Hospital.  The race raised $30,000 which was donated to Miami Children’s Health Foundation.  Over 3500 people attended the event with 1,500 entrants.

Comcast Business in Florida is the new title sponsor of the 8th Annual Waterford 5K at Blue Lagoon: MEGA Glow Edition.  Committed to nearly a decade of health and wellness, the annual 5K (3.1 mile walk/run), which is produced by Taylor & Mathis and TeamFootWorks, will once again wind its way through Waterford at Blue Lagoon Office Park on Friday, November 7, beginning at 6:45 p.m., and will benefit the children and families at Miami Children’s Hospital. The entry fee is $35  through November 6 and $40 on race day. With a special competition that awards the overall male and overall female winner, the Comcast Business Waterford 5K is open to individuals, families, companies and businesses.  Participants will have the opportunity to race against their peers during an evening of fun and competition, and will enjoy a post-race MEGA glow-themed after party featuring Tony “The Hitman” with la Hora Loca, an interactive kids zone, South Florida’s favorite food trucks, giveaways and more.

For the fourth year, the Waterford 5K will donate 100 percent of its proceeds to charitable causes. A focus will be on efforts on providing additional funding for Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to create awareness and generate funds for Miami’s only licensed specialty hospital in South Florida exclusively for children, while ensuring that all children have access to state-of-the-art pediatric care. The race has raised more than $170,000 in support of local causes since its inception.

T&M Raises $35K for Miami Children’s Hospital at 7th Annual Waterford 5K

Taylor & Mathis of Florida hosted Miami’s biggest networking 5K event November 8th benefiting Miami Children’s Hospital.  The 7th annual Waterford at Blue Lagoon 5K Race (www.waterford5k.com) was held at the Waterford at Blue Lagoon Corporate Park in Miami where Taylor & Mathis leases and manages eight office buildings on behalf of owners MetLife and DRA Advisors.  FedEx was the lead sponsor for the event with other major sponsors including MetLife, Club Med, Breitling, Taylor & Mathis, TIAA-CREF, Hogan, MAPFRE Insurance, TW Telecom, Regus, OrthoNOW, DRA Advisors, ThyssenKrupp and Brickell Magazine.

The race raised nearly $35,000 with $25,000 already donated to Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation and another $10,000 expected to come.  Over 2500 people attended the event with 1,714 entrants.  The top male winner was Daniel Martin with a time of 15:43 and a 5:04 pace. The top female winner was Karla Rojas with a time of 20:22 and a 6:34 pace.  Daniel Martin won the coveted Breitling watch valued at $3500. Both runners won 3-night stays at the Sofitel, dinner at La Riviera restaurant and a commemorative plaque.

An avid runner, Taylor & Mathis Senior Property Manager Peter Romero began the event seven years ago as part of a tenant relations program geared towards tenants in the park to boost individual and corporate morale.  In that time it has grown to include 2,000+ participants with over $168,000 donated to charity.  Produced by TeamFootWorks the race attracts a diverse array of participants.

“We had great weather and an incredible group of participants,” according to Romero.  “The highlight of the race was the glow themed after-party featuring Hora Loca . The DJ and  dancers kept  the party going with black lights, giveaways, special lighting, and more.”

The Waterford 5K promotes running and walking as a means to a fit, healthy lifestyle. This is an event for runners and walkers of all abilities.  Beginners can walk the course enjoying the camaraderie of the event. Competitive runners have the opportunity to shine amongst their co-workers and perhaps lead a corporate team to victory.  Even families can enjoy this event with a designated Family Fun Zone.

Waterford 5k is produced by TeamFootWorks and benefits Miami Children’s Hospital. In the past six years, the race has raised over $133,000 donated to charity. Bring your business, family, or friends for a beautiful 3.1 mile run/walk through Miami’s premier office park. There’s something for everyone at this year’s race, including:

TAYLOR & MATHIS OF FLORIDA TO HOST 6TH ANNUAL WATERFORD 5K RACE THIS FRIDAY

Taylor & Mathis of Florida will host the Waterford 5K Race this Friday, November 9th.  The race is held at the Waterford at Blue Lagoon Corporate Park in Miami where Taylor & Mathis leases and manages eight office buildings on behalf of owners MetLife and DRA Advisors.

Taylor & Mathis Senior Property Manager, Peter Romero began the event 6 years ago as part of a tenant relations program.  In that time it has grown to include 2000 participants with over $120,000 donated to charity.   While geared towards tenants within the park, the race attracts participants from all over.  This year’s event beneficiary is Miami Children’s Hospital.

“There is good reason everyone loves this race. It’s well organized in a beautiful location with the absolute best post race party on the racing circuit, according to Romero. “For 2012, DJ Irie is the official DJ!  We’ll even have a Family Fun Zone with these really cool mega-inflatables for adults and kids. I haven’t seen this before at other races. Don’t miss it!” Kohl’s will be distributing FREE bicycle helmets to all kids while supplies last! There will be tons of free sampling from selected vendors showcasing healthy lifestyle products. A $5000 Breitling Watch will be won by either top Male or Female Runner! The Award Winning Marching Band, West Broward High Performance Ensemble will be performing along the picturesque course.  After crossing the finish line, everyone is encouraged to stick around, celebrate, and enjoy the post-5k party.
