T&M Raises $35K for Miami Children’s Hospital at 7th Annual Waterford 5K

Taylor & Mathis of Florida hosted Miami’s biggest networking 5K event November 8th benefiting Miami Children’s Hospital.  The 7th annual Waterford at Blue Lagoon 5K Race (www.waterford5k.com) was held at the Waterford at Blue Lagoon Corporate Park in Miami where Taylor & Mathis leases and manages eight office buildings on behalf of owners MetLife and DRA Advisors.  FedEx was the lead sponsor for the event with other major sponsors including MetLife, Club Med, Breitling, Taylor & Mathis, TIAA-CREF, Hogan, MAPFRE Insurance, TW Telecom, Regus, OrthoNOW, DRA Advisors, ThyssenKrupp and Brickell Magazine.

The race raised nearly $35,000 with $25,000 already donated to Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation and another $10,000 expected to come.  Over 2500 people attended the event with 1,714 entrants.  The top male winner was Daniel Martin with a time of 15:43 and a 5:04 pace. The top female winner was Karla Rojas with a time of 20:22 and a 6:34 pace.  Daniel Martin won the coveted Breitling watch valued at $3500. Both runners won 3-night stays at the Sofitel, dinner at La Riviera restaurant and a commemorative plaque.

An avid runner, Taylor & Mathis Senior Property Manager Peter Romero began the event seven years ago as part of a tenant relations program geared towards tenants in the park to boost individual and corporate morale.  In that time it has grown to include 2,000+ participants with over $168,000 donated to charity.  Produced by TeamFootWorks the race attracts a diverse array of participants.

“We had great weather and an incredible group of participants,” according to Romero.  “The highlight of the race was the glow themed after-party featuring Hora Loca . The DJ and  dancers kept  the party going with black lights, giveaways, special lighting, and more.”

The Waterford 5K promotes running and walking as a means to a fit, healthy lifestyle. This is an event for runners and walkers of all abilities.  Beginners can walk the course enjoying the camaraderie of the event. Competitive runners have the opportunity to shine amongst their co-workers and perhaps lead a corporate team to victory.  Even families can enjoy this event with a designated Family Fun Zone.
